The City of Glenn Heights will celebrate Arbor Day on April 25,
2008 at 9:00 a.m. at the Community Park. A small ceremony and
the planting of several trees will commemorate this national
holiday and honor the vital role trees play in our everyday
lives.
Celebrate Arbor Day in a personal way by planting a tree yourself.
It is an act of optimism and kindness, a labor of love and a
commitment to stewardship.
Trees can reduce the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind
and water, cut heating and cooling costs, moderate the temperature,
clean the air, produce life-giving oxygen and provide habitat
for wildlife.
About Arbor Day
Arbor Day is America's National Tree Holiday, a day set aside
to plant ceremonial trees, educate the public about the importance
of trees, and honor the vital role trees play in our everyday
lives. The brainchild of journalist Julius Sterling Morton,
the first Arbor Day took place on April 10, 1872 in Nebraska.
Today, National Arbor Day is celebrated on the last Friday
in April.
