| GOAL
SETTING |
| The
Planning Commission started setting goals (directional, timed,
achievements) in June of 2005. The discussions centered on |
- the Comprehensive
Plan and UDC,
- functions
of the commissioners, City Council and staff,
- Also on
residential and commercial development and their effect on the City’s
growth
|
| |
The interesting
point was once everyone described his/her duties there was a better
understanding of each other’s thoughts, action and personality.
This led to the selection of the chairman, 2 vice chairmen and preferred
roles to play when the commission is in session. Once the legal ramifications
of public hearings were made clear. There was more insight regarding
staff reports, memos, and an obligation to read with understand the
points presented, request additional research if desired and come prepared with
the UDC and Comprehensive Plan. A vision was derived in August 2005 |
| |
| The
three 2.5-hour sessions focused on neighborhood components. |
| Neighborhood
Components |
By rank
are:
|
- Appearance
to include roads and surrounding aesthetic features,
- Homeowner
on a block vs renter occupation ideally (60%-40% (only looking at
house occupied ratios)
- Parks/Open
Space tied <-> to Accessibility and Parking
- Crime
rate (offenses shall be observed for example, the kinds of theft,
assault, rape and so forth as well as code enforcement violations
by neighborhood or area(beats))
- School
System/District(s)
- Economic
standing (retail to tax exempt structures to residential taxing)
- Economy-regional
and international influences and how the City deals with that adversity.
|
| |
The Commissioners discussed other cities and realized –we
are growing, we will have working pains but we must be united as City
officials
and representatives of the City.
It is important to have an idea as to how cities function in relation
to their values- history, culture, economy and surroundings. The state
and nationwide laws also influence our decisions and actions. |
| |
| Only short term goals were set, but these when practiced can be lead
to long term advantages. The goals submitted to be worked on in one month
to one year: |
| |
| GOALS WERE SET AFTER RANKING |
| HOW OFTEN TOPICS WERE MENTIONED |
| |
| 1. Promoting the City in a unified way by City Council, exhibiting civility
and organize park events within the next year 2006; in order for the public
and others to feel confident about our leaders and the City. |
| |
| Objective:
To entitle businesses and our neighbors to
be more friendly and polite to staff/officials and the public. Promote
our good name
via- (Park events, reduced political exhibits
in public, increased
communication, an improved website, Chambers and public postings for
all events and get an event coordinator p/t.) |
| |
| 2. To influence infrastructure improvements with a schedule showing
bonds to be voted on, or timetable of construction ,so the process may
continue from one City Council to the next. This goal is to be noted for
roads, water/sewer, park facilities (lights/equipment). Within the next
6 months to 2 years 2005-2007 an updated schedule
shall be observed. |
| |
| Objective: To promote safe roads and sustainable neighborhoods, and
set forth an appealing appearance to attract investors and promote the
City and citizens welfare. |
| |
| 3. To
be realistic and accept the things we cannot change, as of this hour.
Encourage family and neighbors to join the Park, School, and Adjustment
Board; and seek gives, grants and deeds from founding fathers-Trees, Branch,
Craddock, January, Glenn as well as businesses. |
| |
| Objective: To concentrate on other givers, grants and means of funds
besides taxes, regional government and revenue |
|
