GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
Total Area: 9 square miles. Over 50% of City's land area is undeveloped. The 2006 population estimate is 10,500 with a Council/Manager form of government in a pro-business environment.
Glenn Heights Texas is located 20 miles south of downtown Dallas on Interstate Highway 35E. The city has approximately 1.5 miles of Interstate Highway road frontage with the majority of this frontage undeveloped. The entire city lies West of the Interstate and shares common borders with the following areas and municipalities: DeSoto, Lancaster, Ovilla, Cedar Hill, Red Oak, Oak Leaf, and un-incorporated areas of Ellis County.
The northern half of the city is located in Dallas County and the southern half is located in Ellis County.
A Master Plan has been developed that allows for creativity and flexibility while maintaining an atmosphere suitable for a good quality of life. Current land use, zoning ordinances, and building restrictions require the development of mostly single family homes in the city with minimum size and materials requirements.
GENERAL CITY INFORMATION
Glenn Heights is a home rule city with a "Council-Manager" type government. Glenn Heights has a full time professional police department. The Department staff includes detectives, local 911 operations, a chief and several full time and reserve officers. Crime is low and the city leaders are committed to keeping it that way.
Public safety is a big concern for the city. Fire and ambulance protection is provided by a well trained department. The fire department is staffed by paid personnel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and backed up by well trained local volunteers. Glenn Heights and the area cities have reciprocal agreements if the need for additional assistance is necessary.
Water provided through the municipal system is made up mostly of surface water from Dallas but is supplemented by treated local well water when necessary. Waste water is carried to the Regional Red Oak Creek Sewage Treatment Plant operated by the Trinity River Authority. This facility allows a balanced growth in home and business construction without the risk of damaging the environment through excessive septic system use. In fact, during the construction of the facility, major trunk lines were built in the region so that "Environmentally Friendly" developers throughout the Southern Watershed could have affordable access.
REGIONAL ADVANTAGES
Glenn Heights is the only southern suburb of Dallas along the I-35E Corridor that participates in Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART). DART operates a "Park and Ride" facility just off of I35E on Bear Creek and operates early morning and late evening routes in the northern portion of the city. This service partially funded by sales tax enables Glenn Heights Residents a chance to participate in all the advantages of regional transportation.
For outdoorsmen, Glenn Heights is minutes away from Lake Joe Poole. To the South is Lake Waxahachie, Lake Whitney, and Bardwell. Each of these locations provides camping, fishing, hunting and water sport activities. The world famous "Dallas HI-HO Campground" is actually located in Glenn Heights. This overnight camping park is located in the 200 block of Bear Creek Road just West of Hampton Road. This facility brings guests to the city from all over the world and provides overnight and seasonal spaces.
Since the area is referred to as "Southern Country" ", you should know that nearby hunting opportunities for quail, dove, duck, rabbit, and squirrel are available as soon as you clear the city limits and gain land owner permission.

SCHOOLS
The northern, Dallas County portion of the city lies in the DeSoto Independent School District. Moates Elementary School, which is located in Glenn Heights, serves the city as well as parts of Southern DeSoto. The middle school, junior high, and high school are within minutes. Bus service is provided. DeSoto ISD is a 5A school with all the advantages of one of the largest school districts in the state.
The southern, Ellis County portion of the city lies in the Red Oak School District. Shields Elementary school that is located in Glenn Heights serves the city as well as the cities of Ovilla, Oak Leaf, and the unincorporated areas of Northern Ellis County. The middle school, junior high, and high school are all located in Red Oak. As with DeSoto bus service is provided. Red Oak ISD is a 4A school with the advantages of a medium size school district in a more rural environment.
Several private schooling alternatives are available in and around the city including The Canterbury School. Childcare providers are also abundant.
CHURCHES
Five organized churches are located in Glenn Heights. Since Glenn Heights is part of the metroplex, congregations of every faith are only minutes away.

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) gets you around Dallas and 12 suburban cities with a wide range of public transit services and customer facilities tailored to make your trip fast, comfortable, and economical. In addition to new light rail and commuter rail services, a modern fleet of nearly 1,000 buses and vans criss-cross a 700-square-mile service area, moving up to 190,000 passengers to work, shopping and entertainment destinations every day. DART provides lift-equipped van service for mobility-impaired customers, plus special rideshare and transportation management programs for busy commuters and large employers..

Calendar of Events
The City Council Meets the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month. Meetings are held at City Hall, 1938 S. Hampton, beginning at 7:30 P.M. When Special Meetings are called or changes to times or Agendas are needed, all notices will be posted at the City's Official Posting Board which is located on the North Exterior Wall of City Hall.
The Planning & Zoning Commission meets the 2nd and 4th Monday of Each month. Meetings are held in the Council Chambers at 1938 S. Hampton beginning at 7:30 P.M.
The Park & Recreation Board meet the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Meetings are held in the Council Chambers at 1938 S. Hampton beginning at 7:00 P.M.
